What:
To Offer Carmel Partners, the new owner, opportunity to engage with the community about their plans for the Wardman site
To Offer the community opportunity to speak on the larger potential for the community (new zoning, new maps, Woodley Park planning process about to begin) and hear speakers on key topics.
Participants: Carmel Partners (invited), housing & land-use experts, city officials, and affordable housing, environmental advocates
Current Plans: Two high-rise towers and 900 apartments:

meeting the Mayor’s Ward 3 goal of 1990 affordable units by 2025 and Deputy Mayor Falcicchio’s commitment to “maximize the residential potential of the site with an emphasis on affordable housing and attainable, middle-income housing”
the number of units at all income levels proposed by Carmel, by ANC 3C and by local advocates
environmental impacts of demolition
adding a grocery store and keeping pedestrian access
city financing, exercise of eminent domain and enforcing Large Tract Review of transportation and other impacts
CM Kenyan McDuffie proposal last year for the Mayor to add $140 million to buy the property at the bankruptcy auction (turned down by the Administration); 7) more space
for overcrowded local schools.
